I recently took out the book Borderlands by Eirik Johnson from the RIT library. This is one of the better photo books I've seen recently and is probably among one of my favorites ever. It's full of landscapes, with each image given a 2 page spread. These images speak about the effects humans have on the environment. Besides being full of beautiful images, the book relates to my current assignment of manmade landscapes. While my own work can't begin to compare to Eirik's, I do see a parallel in the shooting style. Many of his images look like he chanced upon the scene whilst walking, which is my preferred way of shooting. The images contained in this book are beautiful images of ugly things, such as industrialization and trash. They speak of the human condition and how mankind is slowly destroying the earth.
